The Straits Times’ Aqil Hamzah visited Aceh's Tsunami museum ahead of the 20th anniversary of the catastrophic Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. Opened in February 2009, it showcases artefacts recovered in the aftermath of the natural disaster, alongside archival photographs and videos, with exhibits being rotated every three months. It also functions as a tsunami evacuation centre, being able to hold up to 3,000 people in the event that another tsunami strikes Aceh. He found the museum both educational and emotional.
